FabrikaThe hostel is located in what was once the nut workshop of the Krasnyy Oktyabr, or Red October, confectionery factory (now an uber-trendy urban hub) and all in all has retained the factory spirit — you can feel it in the vast spaces, painted walls, intertwined pipes and wires under the roof. Fabrika's point of difference is its own roof access, which means you can sip your morning tea while looking down at Bersenevskiy Pereulok side-street below you. The door gets shut at night though. The hostel walls also act as a gallery: every month the owner puts up new paintings, letting artists live here free of charge in exchange for gifted works. One of the most recent is some sort of schizophrenic expressionism authored by Ruslan Perets. On the whole, Fabrika has been conceived as a sort of creative space that is supposed to host readings and musical nights, as well as other similar events. Given that the hostel is a 3-minute walk from the nearest bar, it is a pretty good fit for those who are in town to party. But it probably wouldn't be too suitable for someone who's here for a long stay: there's one small fridge for 30 people, the kitchen is fitted with only a microwave and a coffee machine. Alas, there is no guest computer. On the upsides, some of the windows face the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour and you can bring your pets. |
